The purpose of this activity is to define a migration plan to take the enterprise from an existing IT environment to the defined target architecture.
Work Breakdown Structure
Purpose
When the Technical Perspective is
completed then a migration plan can be defined. It specifies how to move from the current situation to the target IT
architecture as defined by the Technical Perspective.
Description
To develop a migration plan a current environment is compared with a target architecture and the differences noted.
Knowledge of dependencies between components, technologies, processes and systems, among other aspects, is then used to
order these steps into a logical sequence of activities, with the end result being the enterprise's environment ending up
in the target state as defined by the target enterprise architecture.
These activities are best carried out by a small team staffed by cross-functional team members. The team
should include members with business domain and specifically the existing environment and who can identify
key dependencies, ideally at the Business, Logical and Technology levels. The team should also have knowledge of
project planning, release planning and project management.
Usage
